The Father of Lies speaks

Let us make the methods of the supporters of the HHS mandate clear.  Let us make the lies, slander, and diversionary tactics of the supporters of the HHS mandate clear for all to see and understand.  We need to understand who has made this a partisan battle.

The National Organization for Women president, on their website, states:

The collusion of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has led to an open declaration of war on the women of this country. The bishops have long sought to enshrine into law those policies of the Catholic Church that subordinate women. And they don’t care how badly women get hurt in the process.

This is, quite simply, a bald-faced lie.  NOW cannot cite one single instance of a law that the USCCB has backed that would subordinate women.  The USCCB has long sought access to quality health care for all persons (including little tiny pre-born persons).  To accuse the bishops of not caring how badly women get hurt is straight from the Father of Lies.  The statement of the NOW president ends with this:

We also renew our demand that the federal government require the all-male and violently anti-woman U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops follow the same lobbying and disclosure requirements that currently apply to everyone else.

Notice how she attempts to equate “all-male” with “violently anti-woman.”  This is partisan vitriol at its worst.

In another statement on the NOW website, they claim that the USCCB and other nefarious forces want to restrict birth control:

Continuing Attacks on Birth Control – The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and other extremists are expanding their campaign against women’s reproductive rights by going all out to restrict birth control.

Another lie.  The USCCB is not attempting to restrict birth control for the general population.  The USCCB, and those who treasure religious freedom, think that the First Amendment to the Constitution includes the right to live our faith according to the teachings of our faith.  And that includes not subsidizing abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, or sterilization for other people.  Birth control is widely available throughout the U.S.  Low income women can get it on Medicaid; middle-income women on insurance plans or through Planned Parenthood, and anyone can buy generic oral contraceptives at WalMart for about $9 per month.  The USCCB is not proposing any change to current practice, and NOW’s claim that they are at war on women and going all out to restrict birth control is ludicrous.  How is it that people can really believe this garbage?  Reflect on the title of the post……
